frances hodgson burnett on princesses

"I am a princess.
All girls are.
Even if they live in tiny old attics.
Even if they dress in rags,
even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young.
They're still princesses. All of us.
Didn't your father ever tell you that? Didn't he?"

-Frances Hodgson Burnett
A Little Princess

  1. yes, hailie, you are indeed a princess.

it started long ago...when you were 4 or 5 and I told you that Durretts don't put their feet on furniture and you looked at me (quite defiantly) and said, "yes, but princesses do."

...and then your NYC trip (age 7) when you wore a tiara for 10 days straight while touring the Big Apple and staying in The NY Palace and being okay with the doorman bowing to you every day as you entered the hotel.

too many princess stories to tell about you. but, yes, you are a princess. from a very long line of royalty on your mother's side, of course.
